Our math curriculum is called "Sharon Wells Math".
This program introduces a new or a reviewed concept every week with a test on Friday. Along with the new concepts we are also reviewing concepts from the previous grades that should have been mastered.
Work is done in the classroom so there is no math homework.
This process helps me evaluate where a student is by them doing their own work and I am there to help them.
I have found that if all work is sent home they have a tendency to want parents to “give” them the answer or an older sibling do the work for them.
With the student doing the work in class I am able to see what work they are not understanding before the test on Friday and to be able to accurately evaluate their needs before the TAKS test.
CORRECTION POLICY:
Any work that is done Monday-Thursday, and the student made a failing grade, they have the opportunity to correct that paper for a chance to bring their failing grade up to a 70.
A parent/guardian is asked to help them correct the paper at home and the parent/guardian is required to sign the corrected paper, the work has to be quality work with the correct answer, and the paper must be turned back in to me by the Wednesday following the Monday the folder was sent home.
