*Self-directed learning with teacher assistance
*Acceptance for different and unique ways of learning(incorporating Howard Gardner's seven different kinds of intelligences identified in his "Frames of Mind" publication, which theorizes that students should learn and respond to information in ways they understand and do well)
*Going beyond grade curriculum
1. Research, project presentations, and demonstrations that show depth and complexity

3. Opportunities for both independent and group learning
