Our district offers art instruction for the elementary and secondary grades. This program emphasizes a developmentally appropriate plan which introduces beginning students to art basics while allowing advanced students to explore their creativity independently. The visual arts lessons are designed to compliment the core curriculum with connections to Math, Science, Social Studies and Literature.
Clyde student artists enjoy participating in community service projects benefiting such charities as the Lions Club, the Clyde United Methodist Church and the Haven.
Junior High artists also design lesson plans and teach younger students. They have shared their expertise with children at Clyde Intermediate School, Clyde Pre-K classes and classes at Buffalo Gap Elementary.
Guest speakers and mentors from the Art Institute, Texas State Technical College, McMurry University, Hardin-Simmons University and others help high school students explore career and college possibilities.
Field trips are a part of each year’s experiences for High School artists. Past trips have included a day of hands-on art experiences at McMurry University’s Art Department and at Western Texas College’s Art Department. The Old Jail Art Center Museum in Albany is also a favorite destination. WE have toured Carpenter's Interior Design studios and Buffalo Gap Pottery.
Special studies focusing on careers in architecture have included trips to view the restored Shackleford County Courthouse, the historic Windsor Hotel, the Abilene Public Library, and a tour of the Tittle and Luther architectural firm. We also enjoyed our private tour of Abilene Preservation League's historic "Swenson House."
Other favorites are the Grace Museum and Abilene's Center for Contemporary Arts.
Clyde Art Students also serve the community by bringing their work into the public view. They regularly display their work at The Grace Museum, McMurry University, Western Texas College, the Clyde Public Library, First Financial Bank in Clyde, First National Bank of Baird, Rendezvous Gallery, the Shady Oaks Country Club, and many more. They have been recognized in contests such as the Western Texas College High School Art Competition, the VASE Interscholastic event, the Lions Club Peace Poster Contest and the Congressional art contest. We also have won titles at the Youth Fine Arts division in the West Texas Fair, the National Arts Program, and been chosen for the Texas Association of School Boards juried show. |
